Continuing the Legacy | Capital Campaign

Save History. Fund the Future.

As a community, WE ARE ALL STEWARDS entrusted with Mount Baker Theatre's future. Powered by a love for arts, inspiration, and historic preservation, our community saved MBT in 1983.

Now it is up to us . . .

to Continue the Legacy of saving history and funding the future.

Together, we will:
  • Save the irreplaceable historic interior ceilings and dome from water damage.
  • Innovate a modern patron experience with state of the art sound and video ensuring every kind of show can be world-class.
  • Keep guests safe through enhanced stair lighting and safety rails, fund repairs to 1500 seats for continued patron comfort, and ensure an immersive 1927 experience through special interior paint and carpets.
This important project protects both posterity and possibilities, and Continues the Legacy of a vibrant and historic Mount Baker Theatre.

Save History. Fund the Future.

| MEET YOUR CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIRS
"Having the benefit of this majestic theatre with its high caliber performances, educational shows for children, and community events right here in downtown Bellingham is an absolute privilege. Learning what the capital campaign would accomplish, I realized it was my opportunity to show just how grateful I am for the Mount Baker Theatre. It is an honor to work with Lynda (Hinton), the campaign committee, and the MBT Board and staff to help ensure we can preserve this wondrous place for current and future audiences." —Jane Verner, Campaign Co-Chair and MBT Board Member

"MBT means so much to me, my family, and our entire community. Growing up I used to watch movies at MBT, and my mom even worked there for a while. Now it has become the center of arts and culture for our community. I love attending shows with friends, and when I take around people who are considering moving here, their biggest reactions come from seeing our Theatre. We can’t let the Mount Baker Theatre fall into disrepair and we need a new sound system. That’s why I am proud to be part of the team now asking everyone to join in Continuing the Legacy." —Lynda Hinton, Campaign Co-Chair

| SPOTLIGHT ON STEWARDSHIP

Improving the patron experience is a primary goal of this campaign. We are taking a big next step in meeting the audiovisual expectations of modern audiences, while maintaining the exotic, old world charm of this historic venue.

MBT's seats are an important part of its visual aesthetic. With 109,000 annual attendees and 37 events with crowds over 1,000 people last year alone, some of our seats are wearing out faster than we can repair them. Through purchasing a large stock of replacement parts this capital campaign will enable us to keep our seats looking and working great for many more years.

Here's a look at the need and how our staff and volunteers go over the top currently just to keep patrons seated in the building all year long.
